How flipping works

There is no “upside down” setting in Unicode. Instead, each letter is swapped for a character that looks like it rotated, such as ɐ for a and ǝ for e, and the order is reversed so it reads correctly when turned around. A few capitals and digits borrow look-alikes from other alphabets.

Use it with care

Screen readers may read these characters strangely or skip them, and search won’t match them to normal words. Keep the important words, like your name or your shop name, in plain text somewhere too. Very old devices may show empty boxes.

Upside Down Text Generator: FAQ

Why are some capital letters not flipped?

Letters like H, I, N, O, S, X and Z look the same upside down, so they stay as they are.

Can I flip it back?

Paste upside-down text into the box and it flips back, since flipping twice returns most letters to normal.
